Failures often happen at the worst of times and getting your A/C Unit serviced in the cooler Spring months is always a great idea!

As has been the course for the last several years, the cost of equipment and parts continue to climb, with every manufacturer recently issuing their new 2013 price increases.  This makes it more important to your household finances than ever before to keep your A/C System in proper working order. Add to that cost the critical nature of operating costs and getting your system checked could keep thousands of dollars in your pockets, if not just saving you hundreds in electricity usage. Most people think an A/C System needs a fill up of refrigerant from time to time, much like a fuel tank. This could not be further from the truth! Excluding marginal loss from service, your refrigerant system is a sealed system and should have the exact same amount of refrigerant in it the day it’s replaced as it had in it the day it was new! Refrigerant loss can cause compressor failures, capacitor failure, acid formation and more. Not to mention high electricity costs at the very least!

Tired of High Electric Costs?

Tired of High Electric Costs?

System Cleanliness serves two purposes. The first may directly affect your health. The second may directly affect your operating and maintenance costs. Either way, the bottom line is the potential for your comfort level to become intolerable!

Your air filter protects you from many allergens such as pollen, mold, dust and the like. It is designed to trap particles that are in the airstream. This keeps them out of your evaporator coils, which saves you money! However, and more importantly, this keeps them out of your home and lungs, which makes you healthier and happier! A dirty air filter restricts the airflow further than the design parameters of your A/C System. This puts excessive wear and tear on your blower motor, compressor and capacitors. The airflow could slow down enough to freeze moisture on the indoor evaporator coil and completely block the airflow. This condition leads to large repair bills and extremely large utility bills! Using a good quality air filter and changing it in a timely manner can save you big over the life of your A/C System! Keep in mind, that some air filters are too restrictive right out of the box. Unless you suffer from extreme allergies requiring frequent medical treatment, stick to a decent quality “pleated” air filter. When should you change it? If you change it every time you get an electric bill, you’ll find it’s an easy reminder!

Just like your indoor evaporator coil can get dirty, so too can your outdoor condenser coil! Keep in mind that your outdoor coil is not filtered, so lawn clippings, Cottonwood Tree buds and dirt in the air can greatly restrict your outdoor coil air flow. When this happens, your compressor works overtime, capacitors weaken and fail and your utility bill skyrockets! Merely spraying the debris off the coil with low pressure water can save you hundreds of dollars a year! Be careful not to bend the fins while spraying and wash the debris down the surface first then through the coil last. This helps to keep from impacting the debris deeper into the coil.

Remember this, the money you waste is yours to do with as you see fit. However, We have not met the customer yet who prefers to spend their vacation fund on the utility company or A/C technician! It’s Time for the Spring Cooling Checkup!

With the season changing from Winter to Spring and Summer coming, it’s a very good idea to make sure your cooling system is ready for the job to come.  This could save you from a large costly repair later. It could also just add to your piece of mind.

As we all know, last Summer was brutal. Being listed as the hottest Summer in recorded North Texas history! This means our cooling systems were working overtime to keep up. In some cases we realized that our units did not have enough capacity to carry the high heat loads. Either way, our indoor and outdoor coils were seeing longer than normal runtimes, in many cases impacting with dirt and debris reducing our cooling ability and raising our operational costs.

The various motors in our Cooling Sytems were also seeing excessive use. These motors are the units lifeblood and like any system, peripheral parts keep them operating at peak performance. One of these parts is the capacitor. It is sort of like a shock absorber in a car, when the unit comes on it momentarily increases power to the motor to get it up to speed faster, thus extending its life. Cooling Sytem Motors are designed to get up to optimum speed in seconds, not slowly like a home ceiling fan. After many on and off cycles these capacitors weaken and get out of specification. This capacitor failure will eventually lead to the motor failure itself. A Spring Cooling Checkup is designed to catch this deficiency and save you a major repair with a maintenance item.

A Spring Checkup also checks the refrigerant level for optimum cooling and cost performance, the drain systems for proper flow and various other components for integrity. Usually between 16 and 20 various items are isolated, checked and verified for integrity. Sure, there may be some repair recommendations mentioned that will help save you major repairs later or reduce your energy costs. You may also have a perfectly functioning system. Either way, you have peace of mind going into the hot Summer!

We Are Now Offering Duct Cleaning!

In an effort to better serve our customers, Speedy Services Air Conditioning and Heating has added another valuable skill to assist with your home comfort. We invested in a new Rotobrush duct cleaning machine and have sent our techs to the factory school for certification in duct cleaning. We practiced and used the “learning curve” on our own homes first. You can rest assured that we are up to par and ready to provide you with another quality service!

This added ability can greatly reduce mold and allergens in your duct system caused by poor air filtration and increase your homes overall air quality. In today’s economy a new duct system may not be in the budget for many customers. A duct cleaning can increase your air conditioning systems lifespan and benefit the health of your family by reducing mold and allergens.

Please give us a call and schedule a free in home estimate for this service. For a nominal fee, we also have video inspection equipment that can be used to show you exactly what the inside of your ducts look like, before and after. If you purchase the whole home duct cleaning, the video inspection fees will be removed from the cost of the cleaning.  Call us for details.
